Info:

The reference 4062 was more commonly made with a yellow gold case, gold and steel examples like this one are considered to be more scarce. This particular example is in wonderfully original condition, the case has the original lugs and the steel back retains the engraved Rolex Crown and serial number on the outside of the case back which can be seem in in my photographs above. The chronograph pushers are both original, there is a little wear on them as to be expected of gold-plated pushers. The winding crown is a replacement believed to be an original gold Rolex crown from a 1970's Rolex Cellini or Precision The rare bi-colour dial is in totally original condition, the hands are original with the original lune which matches the Arabic numerals which also retain the original lume and they all shine under UV, the chronograph hand and also the seconds and recording hands are original. The movement has been recently cleaned by an official Rolex outlet restorer in London. There are very few examples of this reference in gold/steel that have been on the open market in recent years, In December 2024 Phillips auction house sold a gold example in almost new condition for £100,000 lot 126 8th December 2024. In December 2023 Phillips sold a gold/steel example , also in immaculate condition for £75,000 Lot 124 10th December 2023 THE REF 4062 The reference 4062 was produced in relatively small numbers between approximately 1942 and 1963. It is one of several Rolex chronograph models housed in a non-Oyster case fitted with a diversity of dial iterations and case metals. It is notable for its outsized (for the era) case and slender, teardrop-style lugs. The case was made by Gunther & Co in La Chaux-de-Fonds (hammerhead 117 hallmark) it came in 36mm with a coin-edged outer flank and elongated teardrop lugs. Some examples, such as the present one, exhibit a coin-edge case band, leading to the nickname “monete,” or “coin,” in Italian.
