THIS ROLEX 1680 The condition and accompanying documents of this example is outstanding. The stainless-steel case has been lightly polished at some point but the lugs are still extremely thick and well defined. The Rolex 93150 bracelet is remarkably well preserved and presents in pristine condition, the clasp is not dated but there is no reason to suspect it is not original. The Mark I dial is in perfect condition with beautiful perfect waffle lume plots and the original matching lume hands. The movement has just been serviced by our watchmakers. This watch comes with the original punched guarantee paper dated 1st July 1978 and the original numbered hang tags and it still the original coffin box and the original outer seahorse carton. THE ROLEX 1680 The reference 1680 Submariner is one of the most recognizable vintage Rolex references as the very first Submariner with a date function When compared to its two contemporaries (the 5512 and 5513), the 1680 was a notable departure. The date window was an obvious one, but this also meant that it was the first Submariner to ever feature the magnifying 'cyclops'. The acrylic crystals were also all flat, unlike the earlier 5512 and 5513 references which featured domed crystals until later in their production. Another interesting differentiator is the dial. Up until 1975, the 'Submariner' text was red, while watches produced after had the text written in white. These variations make the 1680 one of the most collectible Submariner references, and enthusiasts' passion for them have led to extensive scholarship. |
